Laboratory leadership program staff and fellows join other stakeholders during a 2-day stakeholder meeting on an upgraded sample tracking system at UVRI, Entebbe, on March 10, 2026.
Staff and Fellows from the Laboratory Leadership Program (LLP) participated in a two-day stakeholder meeting on the newly upgraded digital National Sample Tracking System from March 9-10, 2026, at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI).
The meeting, organized by Ministry of Health (MOH) through the National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS), Association of Public Health Laboratories & US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, provided hands-on experience on using upgraded system for tracking laboratory samples.
The laboratory sample tracking system, developed in 2017, is now aligned with the One Health framework and reference laboratory operations. This enhancement improves chain of custody, sample integrity, operational efficiency, ISO 15189 compliance, LIMS integration, and real-time dashboard analysis, all of which are critical for effective public health emergency investigations.
The LLP is a two-year post-master’s degree in-service training program implemented by the MOH through Uganda National Institute of Public Health with support from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Baylor Foundation Uganda, Makerere School of Public Health, and Association of Public Health Laboratories.
The LLP training program aims to develop skilled and knowledgeable laboratory leaders who can build and sustain the national laboratory system to effectively and efficiently respond to human, animal, and environmental health challenges in Uganda.
