Our Strategic Focus Areas for Strengthening Immunization in Uganda:

• Advocate for Equitable Immunization Increase social and political commitment and enhance accountability to ensure equitable access to immunization services at all levels.
• Strengthen Local Partnerships Collaborate with local leaders and community-based organizations to boost demand for immunization and address vaccine hesitancy.
• Enhance Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Improve public awareness and trust through tailored messaging, community dialogues, and behavior change communication.
• Improve Data Systems and Evidence Use Build subnational capacity to generate, analyze, and use immunization data for program monitoring, decision-making, and continuous learning.

Achievements

• Achieved 91% coverage in the HPV vaccination campaign for eligible girls in Kitagwenda District.
• Sensitized parents and teachers in 238 schools on the benefits of immunization. Teachers extended these messages to students and parents during PTA meetings, resulting in a significant increase in vaccination turnout.
• Engaged 149 stakeholders, including area Members of Parliament (MPs), to address myths and misconceptions about immunization such as the assumption that it is a means for bewitchment or leads to impotence. This led to subsidized airtime on Kitagwenda’s top radio station to broadcast accurate vaccine information and counter misinformation.
• Oriented 901 Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to help identify 6,596 zero-dose and under-immunized children.
• Collaborated with 152 district and community leaders to micro-plan immunization outreach in targeted communities.
• Facilitated performance review meetings in five districts, involving 157 participants, including health workers, education officers, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), and Village Health Teams (VHTs).
